Music Service 11/22/09

I was so excited when Pastor Hal approached me about the idea of having a service of just worship. We've been planning, practicing, praying and it's finally here! This Sunday, 11/22/09 10:30am. Don't miss this service as we worship through music and media.

I believe (and know personally) that you can't spend time with God and leave the same, He loves us too much for that. So this service is more than just a concert, it's about meeting face to face with God and hearts changed.

Invite your friends and come early for great coffee! See you this Sunday!

80's bowling 10/11/09

I'm so excited about the 80's bowling night. I'm trying to talk my parents into going as Kiss. Think they will win the costume contest? Come out and dress up! This Sunday, 6:30 at Stars and Strikes. And the best part...bowling is $1 a game!

We have prizes for best costume and best bowling. See you there (I'll be the one in a side ponytail).

33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
       How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!

34 "Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?"

35 "Who has ever given to God,
       that God should repay them?"

36 For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.

- Romans 11:33-36

So I'm testing out the feature of blogging from my phone. If this works out then I'm out of excuses for for updating more frequently...

My Dad - Happy Father's Day!

A little about my Dad:

The kind of guy who goes to sleep each night by reading technical manuels on RF and Microwave radar configuration and testing.  Ok, I honestly have no idea what he does, but it is something along those lines.  He's also a musician.  Growing up, my sister and I would have to yell at him to stop playing bass at 3 am so we could go to sleep.

Well, my dad has combined his geek skills with his music skills and invented a really cool guitar pedal - the Sawmill.  It's already creating a buzz among local musicians and it's sure to keep growing.

Check out the video below to hear a good friend friend of ours playing a solo he wrote and using the Sawmill.  Sign up for a newsletter at my dad's website: http://www.gizmoaudio.com/

New Series at The Life Church.  The Other Side...last Sunday was about Heaven, this Sunday's about Hell.  It's gonna be an interesting service, come check it out...the afterlife doesn't have to be scary.

Here's a link to the song we ended with last week...You Hold Me Now

Hillsong United Concert

Hillsong United Concert!  Wow, what an amazing evening.  I was able to go to the preshow where we meet the band and took pictures with them.  There was this one guy with a guitar...he was getting autographs for his worship leader.  He was able to get to every single member of the Hillsong United team.  While I hung back and waited my turn, playing is cool, he raced forward and went for what he was after.  Props to you autograph guru, way to not give up.

It really was an amazing concert.  We found out that the band does not make any profit from the concert.  They charged us for tickets but the proceeds go to pay for concerts in countries where the people could not afford to pay.  Makes me love them even more.

Angels and Demons

We're starting a new sermon series on angels, demons, heaven, and hell.  The life chruch "graphics" team quickly put our heads together to design the perfect graphic to go along with the sermon series.  Pastor didn't go with our first draft:

So, we went back to the drawing board and played off the movie, "Angels and Demons":

Praying for Favor

So this week Pastor asked us to look up verses on favor and start reading them everyday.  I've never done this before, but I can already see the benefits of it.

Here's one:
Proverbs 3:4 NIV
Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.  Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

Nehemiah asked for God's favor in his own life here:
Nehemiah 1:1
Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man

Cool, so if Nehemiah asked, so can I.  The most important thing to remember is to first please God, He will give us favor and can't nobody stop it!

The Life Church

By the way.  I love my church.  It's different...and anyone who's grown up in church like I have is in desperate need of different.  I've spent the last year removing religion.  Layer by layer.  It's a process and sometimes I catch myself regressing.  I don't mean to judge, I don't mean to condemn.  Please forgive me...it's a long road to recovery.

hope to see you there

Last Sunday, Feb. 1, 09 @ TLC

I have a rule about new songs that I normally stick to.  Only one new song in a set per week.  Well, I broke the rule this week and did two new songs.  Open Up the Gates and All Consuming Fire.  I had planned to do Open Up the Gates last week but made an executive decision to X it when the band ran out of time to practice.  So, against my better judgement we did two new songs.  We are always looking for new songs and fast songs are especially hard to come by so when I find a new one I can't wait to introduce it.

Here's the list:
Open Up the Gates - Planetshakers

Last Sunday, Jan. 25, 09 @ TLC

Last Sunday was a blast.  I have to remind myself how worship leaders usually struggle to get musicians and singers to corporate and even show up.  We are tremendously blessed with great talent and willing hearts.  In a pretty new church we have an unprecedented amount of musicians to rotate between.  And did I mention we have great sound men too???  Wow, you guys make my job easy.

Occasionally we like to use Igniter Tracks.  Last Sunday we used one for "Jesus Paid It All".  This video always has a great impact - we love it!  There are many ways to pull this off but here's how we do it:
  • Our Drummer has his own isolated monitor - in ears
  • The media department has the video and they actually start the song off
  • The computer's audio goes only to the drummer's mix
  • Igniter Tracks come with a click when paned to the left...this gives the drummer a metronome to play with.
  • As long as the drummer starts at the right time and keeps the beat we're able to sing with the video

Here's our song list:

The Big Three-O!!!

I turned 30 on monday.  I don't have a problem with this age.  Truth be told, I've always looked forward to my 30's.  Finally, I might be able to get some respect...yeah right, I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I'm the first to admit that I'm a little spoiled...I celebrate "Birthday Week".  So for this one my family decided to try out snow skiing.  Oh no.  You guessed it, I'm not exactly a graceful person and ice does not help.  I was doing ok till I decided to try out the beginner slopes.  Two times of landing on my head left me with little desire to keep going.  The problem was...I was still at the top!  I finally made it down but I think I'll stick with the bunny from now on.

Thanks to all my friends an family for making my special day one to remember - I love you guys!

Jan 18, Last Sunday @ TLC

Something that has been with me all week, and I talked about during the worship service on Sunday morning,  the flying shopping cart guy at publix.  I've seen him two times!  He comes out of the store and launches himself towards his car, riding it downhill at an unbelievable speed.  I just know this guy has to be insane.  He stops at his car and begins unloading his goods when we have to walk right by him.  While I'm trying to avoid what must be a crazy guy, Alana (my roommate and fellow worship leader) says to him, "Sweet Buggy riding!"  To which he replies is a very normal and sane manner, "Well, I never miss an opportunity to have a good time!"  Thats it, we giggle as we walk back to the car but his comment stuck out to me.  I love his mentality on life.  Never miss an opportunity to have a good time.  It's true.  How many times have we missed out on life as it happens all around us.

So that's what I wanted to get across last Sunday.  Praise and worship is fun.  Let's not make it a tradition or chore, have fun!  It's hard to be a grump and sing out-loud.  And having fun is praise to God.  He invented fun, didn't He?

Psalm 118:24 (NIV)  This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Here's the list:
Sing, Sing, Sing - Chris Tomlin
My Savior Lives - Desperation Band
From the Inside Out - Hillsong
Treasure - Desperation Band
Awesome is the Lord Most High - Chris Tomlin
